The Hotel Abad Toledo is located in the heart of the walled city of Toledo, just steps from the famous Puerta del Sol and the main Plaza Zocodover. Inaugurated in January 2003, this one-of-a-kind hotel was constructed from a restored rustic home and antique blacksmith shop dating from 1815. Toledo, the capital of Spain until 1561, remains a wonderland of medieval architecture and an example of the cultural harmony that typified the area well into the Middle Ages. Until the mid 16th century, when Madrid took over as capital, Christians, Jews and Moslems peacefully cohabitated Toledo. Respected members of the three religions founded the remarkable Toledo School of Translators, where learned scholars labored to translate significant philosophical and scientific tracts from Arabic and Hebrew into Latin and Castilian Spanish. In 1986, UNESCO bestowed upon Toledo the honorable title of World Heritage City. The Hotel Abad Toledo has been restored with meticulous attention to detail, befitting its privileged position within the walls of the Old City. Every effort was made to retain the building's original elements, such as hand-hewn wooden ceiling and wall beams and exposed brickwork. These antique touches, blended with a sleek and modern interior design, create a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. Each of the hotel's 22 clean and comfortable rooms boasts a unique character and décor, and each is equipped with all modern amenities, including A/C, satellite cable television and radio, and en-suite bath. A meeting room and handicapped accessible facilities are available by request, and guests can enjoy (for a modest price) a delicious buffet-style breakfast composed of traditional Spanish and other continental fare. Like any good family-run business, the hotel Manager Tito and his staff are always friendly and attentive, ready to go out of their way to make each guest's stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. The sightseeing possibilities are endless - from this central location, you can walk to all the important monuments of Toledo, such as The Cathedral, the Alcazar, the Synagogue of the Transiteo and of Santa Maria la Blanca. The Hotel Abad Toledo offers unique ambiance in an incredible location, only minutes away from fine dining, shopping, and entertainment venues.
